God Is Our Refuge and Strength (Psalm 46:1-3)

Psalm 46 opens with a rock-solid declaration for fearful times: 'God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.' Because of this the psalmist says, 'we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.' It reframes anxiety, not by denying the chaos, but by naming a God who is a stronger shelter than any threat that shakes us.

2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth is transformed and the mountains are toppled into the depths of the seas,
3though their waters roar and foam and the mountains quake in the surge. Selah
