Psalms 8
A hymn of wonder at creation and humanity's place in it. David marvels that the God who set his glory above the heavens cares about human beings, crowning them with glory and honour as stewards of creation.
For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger.
From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise
“Do You hear what these children are saying?” they asked. “Yes,” Jesus answered. “Have you never read: ‘From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise’?”
Read Matthew 21 ›When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place—
what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
What is mankind that you are mindful of them?
But somewhere it is testified in these words: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
Read Hebrews 2 ›You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.
You made them a little lower than the angels
You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor
Read Hebrews 2 ›You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
You put everything under his feet
and placed everything under his feet.” When God subjected all things to him, He left nothing outside of his control. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
Read Hebrews 2 ›He has put everything under his feet — Christ's dominion
For “God has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that everything has been put under Him, this clearly does not include the One who put everything under Him.
Read 1 Corinthians 15 ›all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
