God Has Not Given Us a Spirit of Fear (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

2 Timothy 1:6-7 · Berean Standard Bible

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds believers of what God has actually given them: 'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.' Paul writes it to encourage a timid young leader to 'fan into flame the gift of God' in him. When fear or panic tries to take over, this verse names the truer identity God provides, power, love, and a calm, sound mind.

6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

Read the wider context: 2 Timothy 1.
