Prayer During War
Rees Howells founded the Bible College of Wales in 1924. During World War II, he gathered his students for intense prayer during every major battle.
When Hitler's forces seemed unstoppable, Howells led prayer meetings that lasted for hours. Students recorded specific prayers and their outcomes.
The Battle of Britain
During the Battle of Britain in 1940, when invasion seemed certain, Howells declared, "The Holy Spirit has told me we will not be invaded." Against all military predictions, the invasion never came.
Provision in the Moment
But Howells's faith was tested at home too. The college had no money. Bills mounted. Staff went unpaid.
One day, with no money for food, Howells gathered the students to pray. Before the prayer meeting ended, a check arrived - exactly the amount needed.
This pattern repeated throughout the war years. Never surplus, never shortage. Always provision in the moment of need.
Norman Grubb documented these events in his biography. The precise correlation between prayer and provision became a testimony studied by Christians worldwide.
