Closed on Sunday
In 1946, Truett Cathy opened a tiny diner called the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. He had savings from Army service and a vision to serve people excellent food.
From the beginning, Cathy's faith shaped his business. The restaurant closed on Sundays - unheard of in the restaurant industry. "Our decision to close on Sunday was our way of honoring God and directing our attention to things more important than our business," he explained.
Financial advisors said he was throwing away millions. Competitors mocked the decision. But Cathy held firm for over 75 years.
The Original Chicken Sandwich
In 1967, he opened the first Chick-fil-A in an Atlanta mall. The original chicken sandwich - a boneless breast of chicken served on a buttered bun - became legendary.
Priorities in the Right Order
Today, Chick-fil-A generates more revenue per restaurant than any other fast-food chain, despite being open six days while competitors are open seven. The company gives millions to scholarships for employees and charitable causes.
"I'd like to be remembered as one who kept my priorities in the right order," Cathy said. "We live in a changing world, but we need to be reminded that the important things have not changed."
