Zephaniah
3 chapters · Old Testament · Berean Standard Bible
Judgment is coming — but so is restoration. Zephaniah paints the darkest picture and then reveals a God who "will rejoice over you with singing."
Chapters
God will sweep away everything from the face of the earth — people, animals, birds, fish. The great Day of the Lord is near, a day of wrath, distress, and darkness. Neither silver nor gold can save on that day. Zephaniah's scope is cosmic.
Before judgment falls, seek the Lord — seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be sheltered. Oracles against Philistia, Moab, Ammon, Cush, and Assyria follow. Nineveh will become a desolation, a home for animals.
Jerusalem is rebellious and defiled — its leaders are roaring lions and evening wolves. But God purifies a remnant who take refuge in His name. Then the stunning climax: the Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with singing — God sings over His people.
