From Pastor's Son to Rock Star
Born Vincent Damon Furnier in Detroit, Michigan, Alice Cooper was raised in a Christian household. His father was a pastor and his grandfather an evangelist. Despite this foundation, Cooper's life took a dramatic turn when he embraced the rock star lifestyle. Rising to fame as the 'Godfather of Shock Rock,' he became known for his theatrical performances and heavy drinking. By 1977, Cooper's alcoholism had spiraled out of control, leading to a crisis when he woke up vomiting blood. His wife, Sheryl, staged an intervention, and Cooper entered a sanitarium for treatment.
God's Miraculous Addiction Recovery
Despite initial sobriety, Cooper relapsed, facing a dark moment in his Beverly Hills mansion, contemplating his life with cocaine and a pistol in hand. In desperation, he called out to God, and miraculously, he experienced a profound change. "God took it away from me," Cooper explained, referring to his sudden lack of desire for alcohol. Doctors termed his recovery a 'miracle' as he never returned to his previous addictions.
Embracing His Christian Faith
Returning to his faith, Cooper embraced his Christian roots, reconciling with Sheryl and finding new purpose. He attends church regularly and studies the Bible, integrating his faith with his rock career. Cooper emphasizes that being a Christian doesn't preclude him from being a rock star. "It has to do with a one-on-one relationship with Jesus Christ," he stated. His concerts have become a platform to warn audiences about the dangers of a life without faith.
Life Transformed by Jesus
Today, Alice Cooper is a transformed man, crediting Jesus for his new life. "I'm a new creature now," he declares, grateful for the life he leads and the family he cherishes. "He's the core of everything. He's life itself," Cooper says of Jesus, acknowledging the true source of his transformation.
