22 Years in Atheist Household
A young British man grew up in an entirely atheist household for 22 years. His parents and almost all of his immediate family are atheists - that was the world he lived in, and he had no exposure to Christianity growing up.
First Church Visit Changes Everything
His journey to faith began just eight weeks before he shared his story, when a friend invited him to church for the first time. Despite his atheist upbringing, he felt an instant impact but still had questions.
Atheist to Christian Conversion
After attending services and wrestling with his doubts, everything changed after one particular service. "After the service today, I prayed quietly with you but it wasn't until after the service and me, you and Jonny prayed together that I really felt like I accepted Jesus," he wrote in a message to his church leader.
"Yeah I now call myself a Christian. I really appreciate it man - it changed my life."
UK Gen Z Faith Revival
His story represents a phenomenon UK church leaders are calling "contactless curiosity" - young people with no prior connection to church or Christian friends who are nonetheless seeking faith on their own. Across the UK, stories are emerging of young Gen Zers buying Bibles online and encountering Jesus alone in their bedrooms.
According to recent YouGov data, belief in God among 18-24-year-olds in the UK has climbed from 16% in August 2021 to 45% in January 2025. Church attendance among this age group has quadrupled since 2018.
