Brahmin Converts to Christianity
Hom Nath Dhakal was born into a prominent Brahmin family in Gorkha, Nepal, where the ancient traditions of Hinduism ran deep in his veins. Yet, as he met missionaries both in Gorkha and Kathmandu, he was struck by their genuine happiness, which sparked a curiosity within him. Secretly, he began to study the Bible and attended a Christian house group, despite knowing the risks involved. 'One thing that I can say about my time as a Christian in Nepal is that I was never scared,' Hom Nath shared. 'We were prepared to go to prison for God or face all kinds of problems, because we knew God was with us.' Facing persecution from the government and his family, Hom Nath remained steadfast in his new faith.
Christian Persecution in Nepal
Ramesh, another convert from a long lineage of Hindu priests, encountered Jesus while studying overseas. Upon returning to Nepal, he faced severe persecution, both mentally and physically, and was even falsely accused of violating anti-conversion laws. He was arrested and spent seven days in custody. 'Persecution is part of the Christian calling,' Ramesh reflected. 'But I am happy to talk about how God led me through it, because after, the persecution becomes joy.' Despite the trials, Ramesh and his wife found strength in their faith, living for God and sharing their story with others.
Witch Doctor Finds Jesus
Pulmaya, a former witch doctor, experienced a profound transformation when her grandson began sharing the gospel with her. 'I felt joy in my heart when my grandson read the New Testament to me,' she recalled. Despite being abandoned by her family, Pulmaya found solace in her newfound faith, encouraged by the joy she felt each time she listened to the Bible. 'The Lord gave me the strength,' she affirmed.
Lives Transformed by Faith
Each of these individuals faced significant challenges, but their stories reveal a powerful truth: Jesus intervened in their lives, providing strength, joy, and a sense of purpose. Their faith journey is a testament to God's unwavering presence, even in the face of persecution.
