Questions Arise Amid Violence
In the heart of Baghdad, a city fraught with tension and turmoil, Khalida Rafiq's journey of faith unfolded in ways both profound and perilous. Born into a devout Muslim family, Khalida was raised with the teachings of Islam, attending prayers and participating in religious rituals. Yet, beneath the surface, questions began to simmer. The violence she witnessed at the hands of extremist groups like ISIS stirred doubts about the faith she had known all her life.
A Radio Broadcast Changes Everything
One pivotal day, as the echoes of conflict reverberated through her neighborhood, Khalida found herself drawn to a Christian radio broadcast. The message of love, forgiveness, and peace resonated deeply within her, contrasting starkly with the chaos around her. Faced with a crossroads, she prayed earnestly, "If this is the true religion, come and show me the way."
The Holy Spirit Transforms Her Heart
It was then that Khalida experienced what she describes as a profound sense of peace and certainty. She felt God's presence in a way she had never known before, leading her to embrace Christianity. Her transformation was not just internal; it manifested in tangible ways. "I'm sure the Holy Spirit dwells in me because my behaviors have changed," she shared. "I used to hate people, but now I love everyone, including my enemies."
Worship in Secret, Faith Unshaken
Despite the deep joy and peace she found in her new faith, Khalida's journey was not without its challenges. As a Christian convert in Iraq, she faced the constant threat of persecution, from both her own community and society at large. To protect herself and others, she worshipped in secret, finding solace and strength in the fellowship of an underground church.
Through it all, Khalida's faith remained unshaken. She expressed gratitude for the peace that surpassed all understanding, a gift she attributed wholly to Jesus. Her story stands as a testament to the resilience of faith amid persecution, highlighting the transformative power of encountering Christ in the most unlikely of places.
