Hindu Priest Encounters Jesus Christ
In the heart of Nepal, where the majestic Himalayas stretch towards the heavens, the story of Ramesh, a former Hindu priest, unfolds as a testament to the resilience of faith. Ramesh, once devoted to the rituals of Hinduism, encountered a transformative moment when he learned about Jesus Christ. "I had never met a Nepali Christian before," he recalled, yet the message of hope and love resonated deeply within him.
Facing Persecution After Conversion
Ramesh's journey was not without trials. Upon his conversion, he faced what he described as "mental persecution, physical persecution, social persecution, and political persecution." Arrested under the anti-conversion laws, Ramesh endured the harsh realities of imprisonment. Yet, in those dark hours, he found solace in his newfound faith. "Persecution is part of the Christian calling," Ramesh explained. "Jesus says, 'People will persecute you.' Persecution is not fun. But I am happy to talk about how God led me through it, because after, the persecution becomes joy."
God's Strength Through Community Rejection
His words echo the experiences of many Nepali converts who, despite facing rejection from family and community, find strength in their relationship with Jesus. Pulmaya, a former Hindu witch doctor, shared a similar sentiment, "If you believe in Jesus, God will stand with you. God will fight with you. God will give you strength." Her declaration of faith in the face of community rejection illustrates the profound peace and courage she found in Christ.
Living for God's Purpose
Even as Ramesh and others like him navigate the challenges of their new faith, they remain unwavering. "We were prepared to go to prison for God or face all kinds of problems, because we knew God was with us," Ramesh stated, reflecting a steadfast commitment that has bound the Nepali Christian community together, even under persecution.
Their stories are a powerful reminder that in the face of adversity, it is Jesus who provides strength and protection. "My wife and I both believe that we are living here not for us. We are living for God," Ramesh affirmed, his life a living testimony to the enduring power of faith.
