In the heart of Pakistan's feudal elite, Bilquis Sheikh, a woman of significant political and social standing, embarked on an unexpected journey of faith. Born into a prominent Muslim family in Rawalpindi, Bilquis lived a life of comfort and privilege. Yet, by 1966, following the death of her parents and the end of her marriage, she found herself alone on her ancestral land in Wah, grappling with a profound sense of discontent.
Dreams of Jesus Begin
Seeking purpose, Bilquis turned to the Quran, but it was the person of Jesus who captivated her attention. Driven by curiosity and a series of vivid dreams, she requested a Bible from her Christian chauffeur. As she read, she felt a peace unlike any she had known before. Her dreams often featured Jesus and the Trinity, drawing her further into the mysteries of the Christian faith.
The Moment of Conversion
In her quest for understanding, she approached American missionaries David and Synnoeve Mitchell. They introduced her to the teachings of Jesus, and a pivotal moment came when Dr. Pia Santiago encouraged her to pray to God as a loving father. As Bilquis later recalled, "Oh Father, my Father... Father God." In that moment, she experienced a profound sense of God's Presence, as if His hand rested gently upon her head.
Faith Despite Persecution
On December 24, 1966, Bilquis made the life-altering decision to follow Jesus, and shortly thereafter, she baptized herself in her bathtub, eager to emulate the baptism of Christ. Her conversion was met with severe backlash from her family and community, forcing her to flee to the United States in 1972 for safety.
Life Transformed by God
Despite the risks, Bilquis's faith only grew stronger. She opened her home for worship and shared her story with many, leading others to Christ. Her autobiography, I Dared to Call Him Father, became a testament to her journey and has inspired countless readers worldwide.
Bilquis's story is a powerful reminder of how Jesus reaches into the most unexpected places to bring transformation and hope. Her life exemplifies a profound faith journey, marked by courage and unwavering trust in God.
