Worshipping an Idol
In the heart of the Ivory Coast, Awa and her husband were deeply rooted in their tribal religion, worshipping an idol known as Togosenbla. Life as they knew it took a tragic turn in 2012 when their daughter suddenly passed away, leaving Awa overwhelmed with grief and a sense of helplessness. In her despair, she cried out for divine help, and in that moment, she heard a voice calling, 'Come to me.' A great light enveloped her, and she felt the presence of Jesus entering her mind.
Choosing Jesus Over Everything
Emboldened by this encounter, Awa made the courageous decision to embrace Christianity, a choice that came with significant personal sacrifice. Her husband, unable to accept her newfound faith, threatened to disown her. Despite the risk, Awa reached out to a local pastor who guided her in surrendering her life to Jesus. She realized that Jesus was far more powerful than the idol she once revered.
Fleeing for Her Life
Her decision was met with severe persecution. Her husband cut off support, and her in-laws threatened her life. Fearing for her safety, Awa fled her home to find refuge with fellow believers and eventually relocated to Burkina Faso. Yet, through these trials, she found strength and courage in her faith. 'My faith means so much to me. It opened my heart and mind,' Awa shared. 'When I gave my life to God, I found that Jesus is infinitely more powerful than this idol, which is powerless before Him. It transformed my life and gave me courage to follow Jesus without fear of anything.'
A Witness to Power
Alongside her personal transformation, Awa witnessed God's intervention in her brother-in-law's healing after prayer, further affirming her faith. Awa's story is a testament to the transformative power of Jesus, who not only provided her with courage but also a renewed sense of trust and purpose.
