Sometimes God uses the most unlikely messengers to get our attention.
A Prophet's Dangerous Journey
Balaam was a prophet for hire. The king of Moab had offered him riches to curse Israel, and despite God's clear warning not to go, Balaam saddled his donkey and set out anyway. His heart was set on the reward.
When God Speaks Through Animals
Three times along the road, Balaam's donkey saw what he could not: an angel of the Lord standing with drawn sword, blocking the path. The donkey turned aside, pressed against a wall crushing Balaam's foot, and finally lay down refusing to move. Each time, Balaam beat her in anger.
Then God opened the donkey's mouth: "What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?"
A talking donkey. Balaam was so blinded by greed that he argued with the animal as if this were normal. Only when God opened his eyes did Balaam see the angel and understand—his donkey had saved his life three times.
The Angel's Warning Revealed
The angel's words cut deep: "The donkey saw me and turned aside. If she had not, I would have killed you."
God used a humble donkey to reveal a prophet's blind spot. The animal saw spiritual reality more clearly than the man who claimed to hear from God.
