Bob Goff's journey is a testament to how Jesus can transform a life dedicated to justice and love. Born on February 22, 1959, in California, Bob pursued a successful career in law, establishing Goff and Dewalt, LLP, and winning significant cases in construction defect litigation. Yet, despite his achievements, Bob felt a deeper calling. As he remarked, 'I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter.'
This realization led Bob to establish Love Does, initially known as Restore International, in 2003. The organization was born out of a desire to combat injustices against children and to promote human rights across conflict zones. Working in countries like Uganda, Iraq, and India, Love Does builds schools and provides safety for vulnerable women and children. Bob's work in Uganda is particularly noteworthy. As the Honorary Consul to the Republic of Uganda, he became the first person to bring a witch doctor to trial for attempted murder and win. He also set up a school for witch doctors to educate them and combat human trafficking.
Bob believes that love is an action, not just a feeling. He often states, 'Simply put: love does.' This conviction is evident in his life's work and in his writings, such as the book 'Love Does'. Bob's faith is deeply intertwined with his work, and he often emphasizes that one must 'become love with God' to truly make a difference. He believes that God uses life's challenges to shape us, saying, 'I used to think I could shape the circumstances around me, but now I know Jesus uses circumstances to shape me.'
Through his actions and teachings, Bob Goff demonstrates that a life committed to Jesus' love is a life that actively seeks justice and change. He has shown that love is not stationary but is a relentless pursuit of what matters most. In all his endeavors, it is clear that Jesus is the one who empowers and guides him.
