A Father's Healing Ignites Faith
In the heart of China's Henan Province, Brother Yun, born Liu Zhenying in 1958, grew up in a family marked by poverty and hardship. His life took a dramatic turn in 1974 when his father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. It was a desperate time for the family. Yun's mother, once distant from her faith, encountered Jesus anew in a cave where she had gone with the intent of ending her life. Instead, she returned home renewed and gathered the family to pray, seeking divine intervention for her husband's recovery. Brother Yun prayed earnestly, 'Jesus, I need my father. I don't know who You are, but I know I need my father.' Miraculously, his father was healed within a week.
A Bible Delivered by Vision
This encounter with Jesus ignited Yun's faith and set him on a path of ministry. Despite the lack of resources, his hunger for the Word led him to pray and fast for 100 days, yearning for a Bible. God answered his prayers with a vision of a man bringing him bread in a red bag, which turned into a Bible. Soon after, two men delivered a Bible wrapped in a red cloth to his home, fulfilling the vision.
Persecution Could Not Silence the Gospel
As Yun memorized scripture, he felt called to share his newfound faith across China, even as it brought him into conflict with authorities. He was repeatedly arrested and endured severe persecution, including beatings and a 74-day fast, sustained only by the scriptures he had memorized. Despite these trials, Yun's faith never wavered. He continued to minister, leading many to Christ even while imprisoned.
Walking Out of Prison on Broken Legs
In 1997, while imprisoned in Zhengzhou, Yun experienced another divine intervention. With broken legs, he felt God telling him, 'It is time to leave.' Defying the impossible, he walked out of the high-security prison, passing guards and locked doors unnoticed, as if invisible. A waiting taxi took him to safety, marking a miraculous escape.
Yun's journey didn't end there. He later escaped to Germany, continuing to share his testimony globally, inspiring many with his story of faith and resilience. As Brother Yun himself states, 'It is not great men who change the world, but weak men in the hands of a great God.'
