Pastor's Ministry in Chicago
In the heart of Chicago's west side, during the tumultuous years of 1967 to 1977, David Mains served as pastor at Circle Church. This was no ordinary congregation, as it was racially integrated and dedicated to reversing the trend of churches fleeing the inner city. Mains' commitment to ministry was further demonstrated when he took on the role of Director at 'The Chapel of the Air,' a national radio broadcast that reached nearly 500 outlets across the U.S. and Canada from 1977 to 1995.
50 Day Spiritual Adventure Ministry
However, it was in 1980 that Mains embarked on a mission that would impact millions. Concerned that many churchgoers were not experiencing true transformation, he launched the '50-Day Spiritual Adventure.' This initiative aimed to connect religious media with local churches to foster spiritual renewal. Over the years, these adventures were embraced by over 50,000 churches, touching the lives of more than 5 million individuals.
David Mains once said, 'I am convinced that Christians in this land are at a crossroads... very few leave the sanctuary as changed people.' His words reflected a deep desire to see genuine change in believers' lives, a goal he pursued passionately through his various ministries.
Miracle Cancer Recovery in 2014
Even after facing a serious health crisis, Mains experienced what many considered a miracle recovery from cancer in 2014. Throughout his journey, he consistently sought ways to support and equip the church, establishing Mainstay Church Resources in 1996 to aid pastors in sermon preparation.
Legacy of Church Transformation
David Mains' life and work stand as a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to seeing others transformed by Jesus. His efforts have left a lasting legacy in the Christian community, demonstrating the power of God's intervention in bringing about spiritual renewal.
