Doctors said surgery or paralysis. Her church prayed for twenty minutes

The scars that were never there

1999🇳🇵Nepal

In 1999 a spinal growth was paralysing Gita Shakya. After her Nepali church prayed for twenty minutes the feeling returned, and the surgery was never needed.

Doxa is where Christians record what God has said and done, and return to remember it.

There was no pain and sadness, which she had before. Her face was changed into joy and happiness.

In 1999, doctors gave Gita Shakya two options, and both were frightening. A growth on her spine was slowly paralysing her. The surgery that might stop it could also kill her.

Gita was from Nepal, and her family had deep Buddhist roots. Her husband, Babukaji, was a Buddhist priest. When she travelled for treatment, believers from a Nepali church gathered around her and prayed. They prayed for about twenty minutes.

Then something moved. Feeling returned to her left foot. Her arm, which had been failing her, obeyed her again. Her son Suroj watched it happen. "There was no pain and sadness, which she had before," he said. "Her face was changed into joy and happiness."

The scars that were never there The surgery never happened. She did not need it. And that absence became its own kind of witness. When her husband and her son Suman saw her body whole, with no surgeon's scars to explain it, they could not explain it either. They gave their lives to Jesus.

Suroj is a church elder now, and he has watched his own country become one of the fastest places on earth for the good news of Jesus to spread. Ask him why, and he does not hesitate. "Firstly," he says, "church growth is because of miracles."

Jesus still heals. He still walks into hospital rooms and homes where every human option has run out, and He makes a way. What He did for Gita in 1999, He can do for you.
