Engineer Feels God's Call to Ministry
In the 1980s, John Bevere was working as an engineer at IBM, a career path he initially pursued with the encouragement of his father. However, a conversation with his boss, who remarked that he should be working with people, planted a seed that would grow into a profound ministry calling. Despite a successful career, John felt a pull towards ministry, a path confirmed by multiple messages from ministers and a persistent voice in his heart.
Freedom from Pornography Through God
John's journey was not without its struggles. He battled a pornography addiction, which he initially tried to overcome out of fear of the consequences. It was only when his motivation shifted to love for God and a desire to please Him that he found true freedom. As John recounts, "God told me, 'You can cast out devils, heal the sick, win multitudes to Jesus, and end up in hell.' This revelation shifted my focus from fear to love." On May 6, 1985, this change marked a significant turning point in his life.
Growing in Ministry and Compassion
His early ministry years were spent under Benny Hinn, first as a youth pastor and then as a personal assistant. It was during this time that John realized his lack of compassion, prompted by a letter that pointed it out. He began earnestly praying for God to develop this quality in him.
John struggled initially with public speaking, but after being obedient to God's call to youth ministry in Orlando, Florida, he discovered a newfound gift for speaking. "Obedience is the outward evidence of the fear of the Lord," John says, emphasizing that fearing God leads to transformation.
Life Transformed Through Fear of Lord
In 1990, John and his wife Lisa founded Messenger International, a ministry that has since grown into a global influence. Through his books, speaking engagements, and TV program, John shares the message that the fear of the Lord is about reverence and awe—key to intimacy with God and a transformed life.
John's journey from engineering to ministry, overcoming addiction, and growing in compassion is a testimony to the power of Jesus to transform lives. He gives all glory to God, recognizing that it was Jesus who called him, equipped him, and continues to guide his path.
