A Radical Vision
In 1914, John G. Lake arrived in Spokane, Washington, with a radical vision: to establish "healing rooms" where the sick could receive prayer.
Lake had already seen remarkable things in South Africa, where he had worked alongside healings of bubonic plague victims. Now he brought that faith to America.
The Divine Healing Rooms
He opened Divine Healing Rooms in downtown Spokane. Within five years, over 100,000 documented healings were recorded. Medical professionals investigated. Insurance companies took notice.
The Healthiest City
In 1920, the city of Spokane was statistically documented as the healthiest city in America. The mayor, health officials, and secular newspapers credited Lake's healing ministry.
"Divine healing is simply the mercy of God extended to the sick," Lake taught. "Jesus never turned away the sick."
A Worldwide Movement
Lake died in 1935, but the healing room concept he pioneered has spread worldwide. Today, thousands of healing rooms operate in churches across the globe - all tracing back to one man's vision in Spokane.
