Mbutu was a witch doctor in a remote village in the Democratic Republic of Congo. For years he cast spells, claimed power over the natural world, and sold cures to sick villagers who had nowhere else to turn. People feared him. He made his living off that fear.
Then he was given a small solar-powered radio. It was fixed to one station, a local Christian broadcast, and handed out to villagers who had no other way to hear anything.
Tuned to the truth So Mbutu listened. Day after day the good news came through that little speaker. He learned of the One who really controls the universe, and more than that, he learned about the love of Jesus and His offer of forgiveness. The man who had traded in fear laid his witchcraft down and gave his life to Christ.
He did not keep it to himself. Mbutu now walks from village to village, finding other witch doctors and telling them what he found. Some of them have become believers. Some have become pastors, planting churches where there were none.
A cheap radio and the name of Jesus were enough to turn the most feared man in the village into its brightest light. No one is beyond the reach of that name. Not the person others are afraid of. Not you.
