Mohammad grew up in Yemen, in a conservative Muslim home, in a country with almost no visible church at all. About seventeen years ago he found a Bible in a secondhand shop. He took it home and read it in hiding, because being caught with it could cost him everything.
What he read pulled him in, and he gave his life to Jesus. Then came a strange loneliness. "When I came to faith, I thought I was the only believer in Yemen," he said. "For a long time, I didn't know any other Yemeni Christians."
He was never actually alone He was wrong about being alone, and God kept proving it. Mohammad and his wife Alima, who came to Jesus after reading the Gospels herself, had been unable to have children for seven years. They prayed, and the infertility ended. Once, in a car accident, Mohammad says he saw a white light in the shape of a cross. Slowly he found other Yemeni believers, received discipleship, and today helps lead a house church in one of the hardest places on earth to follow Jesus.
The man who thought he was the only one is now helping build a family of them. If you feel like the only believer in your world, take heart. Jesus is already gathering people you have not met yet, and He has not left you on your own.
