Two Years of Prayer for Revival
On Father's Day, June 18, 1995, the Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida, became the epicenter of a remarkable spiritual awakening. Pastor John Kilpatrick had been fervently praying for a revival for two years, longing for a deeper move of God. His prayers were answered when Steve Hill, an evangelist with a past marked by drug abuse and transformation through Jesus, was invited to speak.
The Brownsville Revival Begins
That day, as Hill preached, he recounted his own salvation experience, saying, 'Jesus, forgive me, Jesus, forgive me, Jesus, forgive me.' He heard Jesus respond, 'I forgive you, son, you are washed in the blood of the lamb.' This powerful testimony set the stage for what was to come.
During the service, a spiritual phenomenon occurred, described by Kilpatrick and Hill as 'a mighty wind' blowing through the church. Hundreds responded to the altar call, and the atmosphere was charged with the presence of God. Kilpatrick later reflected, 'Many times, while walking the aisles during the revival, it seemed like I was walking through an invisible river. The presence of God was so strong there.'
Five Years of Transformation
The revival continued for five years, drawing millions to experience profound repentance and conversion. Corporate businessmen, drug addicts, and countless others were moved to tears, repenting and confessing Jesus as Lord. Lives were transformed as addictions were broken and relationships restored.
Global Impact and God's Glory
This was not just a local church event but a genuine move of God, as Kilpatrick affirmed, 'This is not a Brownsville thing, this is a God thing.' The impact of the Brownsville Revival reached far beyond Pensacola, influencing pastors, missionaries, and believers worldwide, all giving glory to Jesus for the miraculous changes in their lives.
