From Marxist Officer to Exile
Yuan Zhiming's journey from a Marxist-Leninist officer to a devoted follower of Jesus Christ is a testament to the transformative power of faith. Born in 1955 in rural Hebei, China, Yuan's early life was shaped by the Cultural Revolution. He spent a decade in the People's Liberation Army, steeped in Marxist ideology. However, his intellectual pursuits led him to question the status quo, co-writing the critical TV series "River Elegy" in 1988 and engaging in the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.
Atheist Finds God at Princeton
Labeled an inciter, Yuan was exiled and found himself in the United States. It was there, in Princeton, New Jersey, that his life took a dramatic turn. In 1991, during a Chinese Bible study, Yuan experienced a profound conversion, realizing the truth of the Gospel. He was baptized the following year and attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi.
Ministry to Chinese Diaspora
Determined to share his newfound faith, Yuan founded the China Soul for Christ Foundation in California in 1996. Through documentaries like "The Cross: Jesus in China," he chronicled the resilience of faith under persecution. His work has reportedly led thousands to Christ each year, connecting with Chinese intellectuals worldwide.
Living His Testimony Today
Yuan's writings explore the intersections of Christianity and Chinese culture, providing a bridge for many seeking spiritual truth. Despite personal challenges, including past allegations, Yuan's testimony remains a powerful narrative of redemption and purpose in Christ.
Through his ministry, Yuan continues to give all glory to Jesus, who transformed his life and called him to a mission of reaching the Chinese diaspora with the hope of the Gospel.
