Father's Day 1995
On Father's Day 1995, something happened at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida, that would continue for five years.
Steve Hill, an evangelist, was preaching when the presence of God fell so heavily that people began weeping, falling to their knees, crying out for salvation.
The service that night was supposed to end at 9 p.m. It didn't end until 4 a.m. And it didn't really end for five years.
Four Million Visitors
What followed was one of the largest revivals in American history. Over 4 million people visited Brownsville between 1995 and 2000. More than 200,000 professed conversions. The church held services six nights a weekβeach lasting 4-6 hours.
"I've never seen anything like it," said Pastor John Kilpatrick. "People would drive across the country just to sit in the presence of God."
When God Shows Up
The revival was marked by deep repentance. Night after night, the altar was filled with people weeping over sin, crying out for mercy, encountering a holy God.
"We didn't manufacture this," Hill said. "God just showed up. And when He shows up, nothing is ever the same."
Many who were touched at Brownsville went on to become pastors, missionaries, and leaders. The revival is still bearing fruit three decades later.
