Holly Wagner, co-pastor of Oasis Church in Los Angeles, faced one of her life's greatest challenges when she was diagnosed with breast cancer around 2004. Known for her dynamic leadership and vibrant ministry, she suddenly found herself grappling with the fear and uncertainty that accompanies such a diagnosis. Holly recalls, 'There was no magic pill I swallowed. It was a decision.'
Choosing Faith Over Fear
Faced with the daunting journey of treatment, Holly made a conscious choice to embrace hope. She turned to her faith, immersing herself in the scriptures. 'The scriptures I listened to were like medicine to my body,' she shared, highlighting how she listened to a CD of healing scriptures daily. This spiritual nourishment became her anchor, aligning her emotions with the promises of God.
Healing Through Faith Daily
Throughout the treatment, Holly focused on the present, trusting God for each day. 'I felt like God kept saying today, today, how are you today,' she recounted in an interview. This day-by-day reliance on God not only sustained her but also transformed her perspective on joy. 'People have said to me, well, you're just a happy person. I go no, actually I have to choose joy just like everybody else does,' Holly explained.
Transformed for Ministry Impact
The community around her played a crucial role, providing support and encouragement. Holly emerged from this period not only healed but also with a renewed passion for empowering women through her ministry, She Rises. Her experience with cancer fueled her dedication to help women discover their worth and impact the world around them.
Holly's story is a testament to the power of faith and community during life's trials. Jesus was at the center of her healing journey, transforming her fear into hope and her struggles into a platform for empowering others. Her testimony encourages us to choose hope and joy, even in the face of adversity, and to trust in God's unfailing presence.
