Devastating Loss After Sudden Death
On September 11, 2001, Tammy Trent's world was turned upside down. While the world was grappling with the shock of the terrorist attacks in the United States, Tammy faced her own heart-wrenching tragedy in Jamaica. Her husband, Trent Lenderink, vanished beneath the waters of the Blue Lagoon during a free-diving accident. "He smiled and waved, sank beneath the surface and was gone," Tammy recalled, capturing the last moment she saw her beloved husband alive. They had been in Jamaica to celebrate their 11th wedding anniversary and seek God's direction for their lives.
Finding God's Presence in Tragedy
Stranded in Jamaica due to grounded flights, Tammy was engulfed in a whirlwind of emotions. "I felt numb, I felt shocked...but I also knew that God loved me," she said, drawing strength from her faith even in the most devastating moment. Standing at the water's edge, she clung to the hope and love she had always spoken about, wondering if she truly believed it. "It all came down to do I believe what I've been preaching, teaching, talking about, singing about...do I take God at his word?"
Choosing Life After Devastating Loss
Despite the overwhelming loss, Tammy sensed God's presence holding her steady. "I can never interpret my numbness as God's absence in my life... God is always there," she affirmed. This realization propelled her forward, allowing her to choose life and embrace hope, even when it seemed beyond reach. Tammy began sharing her story, finding purpose in her pain and discovering a new ministry to inspire others. "I've seen the very hand of God begin to put my life back together again," she shared, acknowledging how Jesus had carried her through.
God's Faithfulness Through Unimaginable Sorrow
Tammy's journey is a powerful testament to God's faithfulness. In the midst of unimaginable sorrow, Jesus provided comfort and purpose. Tammy chose to live, to hope, and to trust in God's plan, and in doing so, she became a beacon of encouragement to many.
