Rashawn Copeland's journey from a troubled childhood to a life of faith is a testament to the transformative power of God's love. Born on March 13, 1987, Rashawn faced rejection early in life. A teacher once told him never to write again, and at age 11, he endured the trauma of sexual abuse, which led him to seek approval from others. By his teenage years, Rashawn was caught up in a lifestyle of parties and alcohol, driven by the desire to please himself and others.
Surviving Gunshot Wounds at 17
At 17, Rashawn's life took a dramatic turn. While dating a young woman, he found himself in a dangerous confrontation with her ex-boyfriend. Rashawn recounted, 'He pulls out his pistol, he waves it in the air. I turn and run, I slip, and I fall. He stands over me, boom, boom, two gunshots.' As he lay wounded, Rashawn realized he was aloneβhis friends, coaches, and family were not there. In that moment, he cried out to God, saying, 'God was there, and He met me there.' This marked the beginning of his spiritual awakening.
From Hollywood Lifestyle to Suicidal Thoughts
Despite losing his football dreams due to his injuries, Rashawn moved to Los Angeles and became entangled in the Hollywood scene, working as a hype man for Soulja Boy. He appeared to have it all, yet inside he was miserable. A painful breakup left him contemplating suicide. One night, while at his lowest, a Facebook post quoting Romans 8:38β39 caught his attention. Rashawn reflected, 'God met me at my lowest point, and He used social media to do it.' The scripture spoke of God's vast love, and Rashawn wept, calling out to God to experience this love.
God Using Social Media for Ministry
Rashawn's encounter with God's love prompted a profound change. He repented and surrendered his life to Jesus, leaving his old lifestyle behind. He became passionate about sharing God's love with others, founding I'm So Blessed Daily and Without Walls Ministries. Rashawn now uses social media to reach millions with messages of hope and faith, echoing his own experience of finding God online. He serves on the Life.Church Bible app team, helping to spread the gospel globally.
Today, Rashawn Copeland is a minister, author, and speaker, living in Oklahoma City with his wife, Denisse, and their three children. His story reminds us that no matter how far we stray, God's love can reach us wherever we are.
