Hormoz Shariat's journey from Tehran's streets to the heart of Christian ministry is nothing short of extraordinary. Born on August 20, 1955, in Tehran, Iran, Hormoz was raised in a devout Muslim family, fervently believing in the path he was taught. In 1979, during the Iranian Revolution, he found himself chanting "Death to America!" as a passionate activist on Tehran's streets. However, his quest for truth led him to the United States, where he pursued graduate studies at the University of Southern California.
From Islam to Jesus Christ
It was in this academic setting in 1980 that Hormoz encountered Jesus Christ. As he compared the Quran and the Bible, he realized a profound emptiness in his life that Islam could not fill. Reflecting on this transformative moment, Hormoz expressed, "This simple message that even a child can understand...it is so powerful it changed my life, it healed my marriage." His conversion marked a turning point, igniting a passion to share the Gospel with fellow Iranians.
Choosing Forgiveness Over Revenge
The tragic execution of his brother in Iran further fueled Hormoz's resolve. Overcoming anger and a desire for revenge, he embraced a calling to love those who had wronged him. As Hormoz recounted, "Those who killed your brother, they are not your enemies. You're supposed to love them." Guided by this newfound understanding, he founded Iran Alive Ministries in 2000, with a vision to reach Iranians through satellite television.
Christian Satellite Ministry Iran
From a studio in Dallas, Texas, Hormoz's voice now reaches millions across Iran and the Middle East. "It's amazing technology," he said. "I just walk into our studio, turn on a switch, and I talk to millions in real time." Iran Alive Ministries broadcasts the message of Jesus Christ 24/7, and through these efforts, thousands have embraced Christianity.
Hormoz's story is a testament to the power of forgiveness and the transformative impact of Jesus. As he fervently believes, "Iran is ready for a major transformation, spiritually, socially, financially, and politically." Through his ministry, Hormoz Shariat continues to trust in God's promise to bring change to Iran, giving Jesus the credit for every heart transformed by the Gospel.
