Growing Up Without Faith
Lacey Nicole Mosley, born on September 4, 1981, grew up in an atheist home, devoid of faith and hope. At just ten years old, her world was shattered when her three-year-old cousin was murdered, leading her to question the existence of a loving God. As she grappled with this tragedy, Lacey spiraled into depression, seeking solace in drugs and a community equally mired in despair. She was overwhelmed by a profound emptiness, finding herself crying into the night, resisting any semblance of happiness, and harboring resentment towards Christians, whom she perceived as hypocritical.
God Stopped Suicide Attempt
At the age of sixteen, Lacey's despair reached a critical point. She meticulously planned to end her life, feeling there was no reason to continue. However, on the day she intended to carry out her plan, Lacey's grandmother insisted she attend church as a consequence for skipping school. Despite her disdain for Christians, Lacey reluctantly agreed to go.
During the service, the pastor spoke directly to those suffering from suicidal thoughts, urging them to come forward for prayer. As Lacey attempted to leave, an elderly man stopped her, sharing a message that would alter her life. He said, "God wants you to know that even though you never knew an earthly father, He will be a better father to you than any earthly father could ever be. He has seen you when you cry yourself to sleep at night." He explained that Jesus had died to take away her pain.
In that moment, Lacey felt God's presence for the first time. She realized her own imperfections and sensed an invitation to change. She later reflected, "In that moment, the day that I had planned to commit suicide, I realized this encounter with God was so much more real than anything that I'd ever heard from anyone." Lacey embraced this new path, allowing God to transform her life.
Life Transformed Through Faith
Abandoning her plan for suicide, Lacey dedicated herself to a life of faith. She formed the band Flyleaf, using her music to share her story and offer hope to others. She has also authored books and speaks for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, continually testifying to the power of God's love and redemption.
Through her journey, Lacey has been blessed with a family, marrying Joshua Sturm and raising three sons. Her faith remains a guiding force, and she credits Jesus for redeeming her from a life of darkness and despair.
