A Dream Changes Everything
In the midst of the Syrian Civil War, many have found themselves uprooted, searching for hope amid chaos. One such story is that of Abu Radwan, a refugee from Homs who found a new path amidst the devastation. His journey took a radical turn in Lebanon when, in a dream, he encountered Jesus. As Abu Radwan recounted, 'I believed that Jesus was coming to help us, to save us.' This dream marked the beginning of a profound transformation. Baptized by Bishop George Saliba, Abu Radwan felt a peace that eluded him in the war-torn streets of Syria. 'I was relieved when I was baptized,' he shared, 'If I die, now, here in front of the church, I will die in peace.'
Facing Persecution for Faith
His conversion, however, came with its perils. In Beirut, members of his tribe, opposed to his new faith, attacked him. Yet, despite the physical threats, Abu Radwan's resolve remained unshaken. His faith in Jesus provided him the strength to face his adversities with peace rather than fear.
Jesus Protection from Terrorists
Similarly, Fadia and Rafi Eskeif, refugees from Aleppo, leaned into their Christian faith amidst threats from terrorists. Fadia recalled a harrowing moment when militants threatened their lives. 'They started to shoot into the sky and say, "Christians, we are going to kill you, we're going to slaughter you!"' In that moment of fear, Fadia prayed, 'Lord, just move them so we can escape,' and she believed it was Jesus who protected her family.
Life Transformed Through Christ
These stories resonate with many Syrian refugees who have encountered Jesus in dreams or through the support of local churches. The transformation from fear to peace, from despair to hope, is a testament to the power of faith and the presence of Jesus in their lives. Despite facing persecution and rejection, these individuals have found a new identity and community within Christianity, attributing their resilience and newfound peace to Jesus' intervening presence.
