A Calling at Sixteen
Heidi Baker's journey began in Southern California, where she experienced a profound calling from God at just 16 years old. While on a student program on a Choctaw Indian reservation in Mississippi, Heidi attended a revival meeting and was deeply moved by a Navajo preacher's message. ## Overcoming Dyslexia to Change the World
On March 13, 1976, she felt God's call on her life, and the very next day, she was filled with the Holy Spirit, experiencing a transformation that would define her life's mission.
Healed of Dyslexia
Despite battling severe dyslexia, Heidi experienced a miraculous healing that enabled her to read, demonstrating God's power in her life. She met Rolland Baker in 1979, sharing a mutual desire to bring hope to the marginalized. Together, they founded Iris Ministries in 1980, focusing on serving the poor and forgotten in developing nations.
Breaking Point in Mozambique
In 1995, the Bakers relocated to Mozambique, one of the world's poorest countries, to minister to orphaned and abandoned children. Faced with immense challenges, Heidi reached a breaking point, physically exhausted and contemplating leaving her calling. In a pivotal moment during a trip to Toronto, she encountered God's presence in a profound way. There, she received a prophetic word about her calling in Mozambique, and God healed her physical ailments through prayer.
There Will Always Be Enough
Returning to Mozambique rejuvenated, Heidi witnessed incredible miracles. She saw blind eyes opened, deaf ears healed, and even the dead brought back to life through the power of Jesus. Heidi often recounts a vision where Jesus assured her, "I died that there would always be enough," reinforcing her faith in God's provision. Under Heidi and Rolland's leadership, Iris Global has expanded significantly, transforming lives and communities across Mozambique and beyond. Their holistic approach includes orphan care, education, health services, and church planting, driven by a vision of love in action. Through her story, Heidi Baker exemplifies a life of dependence on God, where Jesus receives all the glory for the miracles and transformations witnessed. Her journey from overcoming dyslexia to impacting nations is a powerful testament to what God can do through willing hearts.
