Christian Persecution During Syrian War
Amidst the turmoil of the Syrian civil war, countless Christians found themselves in peril. The city of Homs, once home to a vibrant Christian community, saw its population dwindle as individuals fled violence and persecution. Among these was Abu Radwan, a refugee now residing in Beirut. Radwan's journey of faith took a transformative turn following a dream in which he encountered Jesus. 'I started going to the church. I believed that Jesus was coming to help us, to save us,' he shared. Despite facing violence for his newfound beliefs, including a stabbing, Radwan's faith remained unshaken. 'If I die, now, here in front of the church, I will die in peace,' he professed.
Prayer for Safety Answered
In Aleppo, Fadia's family witnessed the horror of targeted threats. 'They started to shoot into the sky and say, "Christians, we are going to kill you, we're going to slaughter you!"' she recounted through an interpreter. As they prayed for safety, they sensed God was intervening. 'Lord, just move them so we can escape,' she prayed, witnessing their assailants shift positions, allowing her family to flee to safety.
Churches Provide Refuge
Throughout this crisis, churches in Lebanon and Jordan opened their doors, providing much-needed support. Pastor Tony in Lebanon remarked, 'We say that God has opened this door to serve people who are displaced from their homes.' Meanwhile, Faraj, a former art teacher, found solace in the assistance of the Bible Society of Jordan, declaring, 'The Lord sent you to me.'
Faith Endures Despite Hardship
Despite the harsh conditions in refugee camps and the challenges of resettlement, many maintained their faith. Maysara, a refugee, expressed, 'Safety and warmth may be taken for granted by some, but to me, they are priceless blessings.' The enduring hope of returning to Syria and rebuilding their homeland remains alive in many hearts, fortified by a deepened relationship with God.
