Christian Business Testimony Philadelphia Begins
In 1970, Michael Cardone Sr. and his son Michael Cardone Jr. embarked on a journey that would transform the automotive industry and testify to the power of faith. Starting in a modest storefront in North Philadelphia, their venture, Cardone Industries, grew to become the world's largest privately-owned remanufacturer of automotive parts. The seed of this success was planted during a rainstorm when Michael Sr.'s windshield wiper motor failed, and he realized there were no rebuilt options available. This moment, coupled with a sense of divine calling, ignited the idea of remanufacturing wiper motors.
Faith Fueled Business Growth
Despite skepticism from industry experts who called the idea 'crazy,' the Cardones pressed on, fueled by faith and family support. By 1987, the company employed 1,000 people, and by 2000, it had grown to 5,000 employees. Michael Cardone Jr. attributes their success to a commitment to God. 'You're in the business of ministry. You're just as important in God's kingdom being a minister. He needs businessmen,' he stated, underscoring their belief that business can serve as a form of ministry.
Business as Ministry Foundation
Guided by Christian values, Cardone Industries aimed to develop people, often hiring those with limited experience but with potential that God had planted in them. Michael Jr. emphasized, 'We always prayed for opportunities that God would give us - opportunities in the business, opportunities for ministry, and then bring us the people to help us accomplish those opportunities.'
Creating a Giving Culture
The Cardone Foundation, established in 1977, reflects their mission to impact Christ's Kingdom through business, donating over 10% of net profits to various causes. In times of crisis, such as a devastating fire or the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, their faith led them to send aid and support to those in need, demonstrating a commitment to service beyond business.
Michael Cardone Jr.'s testimony is not just about growing a business but about creating a culture of giving and integrity, attributing every success to the faith and principles that guided them. 'A giving company creates giving employees who create a giving culture,' he said, highlighting the ripple effect of their faith-based approach. Through their story, it is clear that Jesus is the cornerstone of their achievements, providing direction, opportunity, and purpose in their endeavors.
