The Morning of September 11
On September 11, 2001, Sujo John found himself on the 81st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City when the first plane struck. At that moment, surrounded by chaos and destruction, Sujo, an Indian immigrant, experienced a profound shift in his faith. He had moved to America in pursuit of a career and the American dream, but his nominal Christian faith was about to be tested in unimaginable ways.
Crying Out to God
As the building shook and panic ensued, Sujo felt an overwhelming urge to call out to God. 'I had a deep sense of urgency to cry out to God, and I knew that only He could save me in that moment of despair,' he recounted. His wife, Mary, worked in the South Tower, adding to his anxiety as he made his way down the stairs amid the chaos.
A Second Chance
Miraculously, both Sujo and Mary survived the collapse of the towers. This experience was not just a brush with death but a catalyst for transformation. Reflecting on the tragedy, Sujo recognized the improbability of their survival as a sign of divine intervention. 'Surviving 9/11 was not an accident. It was God's way of giving me a second chance to live my life for Him,' he stated.
A New Purpose
Before 9/11, Sujo had been focused on his career, but after experiencing such a miraculous escape, he dedicated himself to a new purpose. He became deeply committed to sharing his story and the message of hope and faith he discovered amidst the rubble. Sujo John transitioned from a corporate career to evangelical work, traveling worldwide to share his testimony and encourage others.
Through his journey, Sujo's life illustrates the profound impact of faith in the face of adversity and how moments of crisis can lead to a renewed purpose and commitment to God.
