Missionary Imprisoned in Sudan

Petr Jasek, a dedicated missionary with The Voice of the Martyrs, faced an unexpected trial during his mission to support persecuted Christians in Sudan. In December 2015, while returning from a trip to assess the needs of Sudanese believers, Jasek was arrested at the Khartoum airport. Accused of espionage and other severe charges, Petr faced the possibility of a death sentence. Initially detained by the Sudanese Intelligence Service, he was subjected to harsh conditions, sharing a cell with Islamic extremists, including former bodyguards of Osama bin Laden. Despite these adversities, Jasek found solace in his faith.

Prophetic Dream Before Imprisonment

Two and a half years before his imprisonment, Petr had a dream that prepared him for this ordeal. As he recalled, 'The door in my Sudanese prison cell was the same door I had seen in my dream.' This prophetic vision sustained him as he endured physical and emotional abuse. During his 445 days in captivity, Jasek was moved between five prisons, often facing worsening conditions. He lost significant weight and suffered from anemia due to inadequate food.

Gospel Shared in Prison

Despite these trials, Petr's faith deepened. He spent hours daily reading the Bible and praying, which transformed his outlook. Initially praying for release, he soon focused on fulfilling God's purpose within the prison walls. Jasek shared the Gospel with fellow inmates, witnessing transformations and conversions, including twelve Eritrean refugees who committed their lives to Christ. 'Now Lord, I know why I have to be here...' he reflected.

God's Miraculous Intervention

Jasek's release in February 2017, secured through Czech diplomatic efforts, was a testament to God's intervention. As he finished reading a Psalm, the prison commander announced his release, an answer to the prayers of many. Returning to his family, Jasek continued his mission, sharing his testimony worldwide and encouraging Christians to support the persecuted. He describes his time in prison as a 'furnace of affliction,' refining his faith and increasing his love for Jesus. Petr Jasek's story stands as a powerful testament to God's faithfulness and the transformative power of faith.
