Muslim Converts to Christianity Testimony
In the bustling city of Tehran, Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh embarked on a courageous journey fueled by their passion for sharing the truth they found in Jesus. Having once followed Islam, their hearts longed for a personal connection with God—a yearning fulfilled when they encountered Jesus Christ. They met in 2005 while studying Christian theology in Turkey and returned to Iran with a mission to distribute New Testaments and spread the message of salvation.
Imprisoned for Faith in Iran
Their efforts were not without peril. In March 2009, they were arrested and charged with apostasy, anti-government activity, and blasphemy. Facing the harsh reality of a death sentence, Maryam and Marziyeh were imprisoned in Tehran's notorious Evin Prison for 259 days. Despite the grim conditions, their faith remained steadfast. "In prison in Iran, people don't have any rights and it was worse for us because of our Christian faith," Maryam reflected. Yet, they found solace in ministering to other prisoners, offering hope amidst despair. Marziyeh recalled, "The guards couldn't stop us from talking to prisoners about Christianity and that made them furious. We were already in prison, so what more could they do to us?"
Divine Intervention and Freedom
Their arrest sparked international attention, and through fervent prayers and advocacy, they were released in November 2009. They attribute their freedom to divine intervention. After their release, Maryam and Marziyeh immigrated to the United States, where they continue to share their testimony and advocate for religious freedom.
Living Testament of Faith
Their story, documented in their book, *Captive in Iran*, serves as a powerful testament to the strength and resilience found in a relationship with Jesus. Their unwavering faith not only sustained them through unimaginable trials but also brought light to those around them, affirming that even in the darkest places, Jesus is present and working.
