A Man at the Edge
In the late 1970s, Angus Buchan was a man at the edge. Having moved to Greytown, South Africa, with his family in 1976, he found himself consumed by the relentless demands of farming. Despite his hard work, he felt an emptiness that nothing could fill. But this changed dramatically on February 18, 1979. Angus, his wife Jill, and their children attended a Methodist church service in Greytown. It was here that they experienced a profound transformation, choosing to follow Christ. Angus described this moment as a complete change, filled with joy and peace, and a readiness to embrace whatever God had in store for him.
Shalom Ministries
In 1980, the Buchans established Shalom Ministries to share their newfound faith. Angus felt a strong calling to preach, and by 1990, he dedicated himself entirely to evangelism, even traveling across Africa in a converted fire engine to spread the message of hope. His story gained wider attention with the publication of his autobiography, 'Faith Like Potatoes', which recounts his faith-driven decision to plant potatoes during a severe droughtβa decision that resulted in a bountiful harvest against all odds.
The Mighty Men Conference
The Mighty Men Conference, initiated by Angus in 2004 on his Shalom farm, became a pivotal part of his ministry. Starting with just 40 attendees, it rapidly grew to host over 200,000 men by 2009. The conference was a space for men to reconnect with God and embrace their roles within their families with love and responsibility. Angus's message was clear and profound: 'Husbands love your wives.' These gatherings emphasized biblical masculinity and spiritual growth, resonating with thousands and sparking similar events across the globe.
A Global Reach
Today, Angus continues to reach a global audience through his television programs 'Family Time' and 'Grassroots', sharing his testimony and encouraging others to find peace and purpose through faith.
