Challenges on the Farm
In the heart of South Africa, Angus Buchan, a farmer of Scottish descent, faced immense challenges on his farm in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal. Born on August 5, 1947, in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Angus came from a hard-working background, but his life was marked by anger and unrest. In 1976, political changes drove him and his family from Zambia to South Africa, where they settled on a piece of overgrown bushveld without water or electricity. Despite his relentless effort, Angus was overwhelmed by the pressures of farming and family life. He later reflected, 'My mind raced all the time. I just couldn't find peace.'
A Life-Altering Decision
On February 18, 1979, everything changed when Angus and his family attended a church service in Greytown. During the service, they made a life-altering decision to embrace faith in Jesus Christ. Angus described this moment as a transformative experience, saying, 'I had a complete transformation. I had joy, I had peace, and I was ready for whatever God told me to do.'
A Radical Shift
This newfound faith led to a radical shift in his life and farming practices. The Buchan farm was renamed Shalom, meaning peace, and Angus dedicated it to God's purposes. He began spending hours in prayer, seeking divine guidance. His faith-driven actions led to unexpected agricultural success, such as planting potatoes during a severe drought and harvesting abundantly against all odds.
Shalom Ministries
In 1980, Angus founded Shalom Ministries to share his story and encourage others. By November 1989, he was preaching publicly, eventually becoming a full-time evangelist. He handed over the farm's operations to his sons, focusing on his calling. Angus traveled across Africa, sharing his testimony, and initiated the Mighty Men Conference in 2004, drawing thousands to hear his message. In April 2017, he organized a massive prayer gathering attended by over 700,000 people, underscoring the impact of his faith-driven journey.
