From Confrontation to Compassion
In the shadow of 9/11, Jeremy and Jessica Courtney embarked on a journey that would transform their lives and countless others. With a desire to serve and share their faith, they moved to the Middle East. Initially, their approach was to convince others of their beliefs. But in a moment of prayer, Jeremy sensed God saying, 'Because you don't love them, Jeremy. That's why I'm not making you successful in this thing that you're trying to do: you don't love people.' This revelation shifted their perspective from confrontation to compassion.
God Spoke Through Prayer
In 2007, amidst the turmoil of the Iraq War, the Courtneys founded the Preemptive Love Coalition in Iraq. Their mission began with a single cup of chai and a plea for help from a local man whose cousin's daughter desperately needed heart surgery. Jeremy decided to 'suspend my questions and to jump in and love first.'
Transforming Lives in Iraq
They discovered thousands of Iraqi children required heart surgeries, but local resources were insufficient. Instead of merely sending children abroad, they trained local doctors, addressing systemic needs and empowering the community.
Preemptive Love's work expanded to include frontline relief, offering food, water, shelter, and medical care to those in conflict zones. Their efforts were underpinned by a philosophy of 'first in, last to leave,' uniting divided communities through acts of love.
Fear to Love Transformation
Despite facing threats and adversity, Jeremy's resolve was rooted in his faith. He stated, 'Preemptive love is where I jump forward to love you before you love me.' This radical commitment to love first, even amidst danger, showcased the transformative power of faith.
Though challenges arose, including a controversial departure from the organization, Jeremy's story remains a testament to how Jesus can turn fear into love, making an indelible impact on the world.
