Growing Up Muslim in America
Nabeel Qureshi was born in San Diego, California, to a devout Ahmadi Muslim family who had immigrated from Pakistan. From a young age, he was immersed in Islamic teachings, learning Urdu and Arabic, and memorizing the Quran. However, his devout upbringing was challenged during his university years at Old Dominion University, where he met David Wood, a Christian who would become a close friend and intellectual sparring partner. Through debates and discussions, Nabeel began critically examining the historical claims of both Islam and Christianity.
Crisis of Faith
As Nabeel objectively researched, he found the evidence supporting Islam weaker than he had believed. He was deeply disturbed, realizing that embracing Christianity meant leaving his family's beliefs and traditions that extended back to the time of Muhammad. In his own words, 'It wasn't just me saying I'm going to change my beliefs; it's me saying I'm going to leave my family and everything they've stood for all the way back to Muhammad's time.'
God Speaks Through Dreams
Caught in a crisis of faith, Nabeel earnestly prayed for guidance, asking God to reveal the truth through a vision or dream. God responded with a vision and three distinct dreams over several months, leading Nabeel to the message of the gospel. God made it abundantly clear through these supernatural encounters, as Nabeel recalled, 'God made this abundantly clear to me through dreams and visions... it was at that point that I was able to get away from the argumentation.'
Life Transformed by Jesus
Finally, Nabeel submitted to God, declaring, 'I submit that Jesus Christ is Lord of Heaven and Earth, and that He came to this world to die for my sins... Christ, I accept You into my life.' This decision came at a great personal cost, including the potential loss of his family and community. Yet, he found comfort in scripture.
Nabeel went on to become a Christian apologist, sharing his journey and defending the Christian faith worldwide. He authored several books, including 'Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus,' and joined Ravi Zacharias International Ministries as a speaker. His story of transformation and the divine intervention through dreams and visions underscore the profound impact of Jesus' love and truth. Until his passing from stomach cancer at the age of 34, Nabeel dedicated his life to telling others about the grace and truth he found in Jesus Christ.
