An Accident That Changed Everything
Born into a nominally Anglican family in Twyning, Gloucestershire, England, James Innell Packer experienced a pivotal moment at the age of seven when a collision with a bread van left him with a serious head injury. This accident, which prevented him from participating in sports, directed young Packer toward a life of reading and writing, gifts that would later shape his monumental contributions to Christian theology.
A True Conversion
At 18, Packer's life took a significant turn during an evangelistic service at St. Aldate's Anglican Church in October 1944. There, he heard Dr. Langston share his story, and Packer realized he wasn't truly saved. In his own words, 'When I went out of the church I knew I was a Christian. I had given my life to Christ.'
A Theological Legacy
This newfound faith was a catalyst for his theological journey, leading him to become one of the most influential Christian theologians of the 20th century.
