America's Greatest Theologian
Jonathan Edwards was America's greatest theologian. But his legacy wasn't just intellectual - it was generational.
A Marriage of Faith
Edwards married Sarah Pierpont, a woman of deep faith. Together, they raised eleven children with intentional spiritual formation. They prayed together daily, discussed theology at dinner, and modeled genuine faith.
The Edwards Legacy
The results were remarkable. A study of Edwards's descendants over 150 years found:
- Over 100 lawyers and judges - 80 holders of public office - 65 professors - 30 judges - 13 college presidents - 3 U.S. senators - 1 vice president (Aaron Burr was his grandson)
More importantly, the family produced countless ministers, missionaries, and faithful Christians who shaped American society.
A Contrast in Generations
Edwards's contemporary, Max Jukes, lived without faith. A study of his descendants found high rates of crime, poverty, and dysfunction.
The contrast became a famous sociological case study: spiritual investment in children produces generational fruit. Edwards didn't just preach revival - he lived it at home.
