Billy Graham Salvation Experience
Kathie Lee Gifford's relationship with God began at the age of 12, when she attended a Billy Graham film in Annapolis, Maryland. As she watched 'The Restless Ones,' she felt God speak to her, saying, 'I love you, Kathy. And I want to make something beautiful out of your life if you'll trust me.' This moment marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. Raised with a deep appreciation for her Jewish heritage, Kathie Lee navigated her early years as a singer in a folk group and later pursued drama and music at Oral Roberts University.
Faith Through Husband's Affair
Her first marriage to Paul Johnson in 1976 ended in divorce, a time when her faith was tested. However, it was her marriage to Frank Gifford in 1986 that truly challenged her faith. In 1997, Frank's affair became public, shaking the foundation of their family. Yet, Kathie Lee turned to her faith in God for strength, saying, 'My whole faith is built on the foundation of forgiveness: Jesus died for me for the forgiveness of my sins.' She prayed for a renewed love for Frank, and she believes God answered those prayers.
Growing in Biblical Understanding
Throughout her life, Kathie Lee sought a deeper understanding of the Bible, leading her to study Scripture in its original text and travel to the Holy Land. Despite moments of spiritual weariness, she found solace in writing her own Christian music and immersing herself in biblical study.
Divine Healing After Surgery
Physical challenges also marked her journey. After hip surgery and a fractured pelvis, she experienced a remarkable recovery that she attributes to divine intervention. Her doctor was astounded, acknowledging the healing as 'by the mercy and grace of God.'
Kathie Lee's journey is a testament to God's faithfulness. She believes that true happiness comes from doing what God created us to do and remains steadfast in her belief in God's love. 'God is bigger than any mistake you will ever make,' she affirms, confident in His forgiveness and grace.
