Born on October 21, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, Keith Green grew up in a musically inclined family, quickly showing prodigious talent. By age 11, he had signed a contract with Decca Records, yet early success eluded him, leaving him feeling unfulfilled. Despite reading the New Testament growing up, his Jewish heritage led to confusion in his spiritual journey.

From Drugs to Eastern Mysticism

At 15, Keith embarked on a quest for meaning, delving into drugs and Eastern mysticism. His search for truth reached a turning point in 1973 when he met Melody Steiner, who became both his wife and spiritual partner. By December 1972, Keith had welcomed Jesus into his life, marking the beginning of his transformation. "Jesus, you are hereby officially welcomed into me," he wrote, signaling a new chapter.

Keith Green Conversion Story Begins

In May 1975, Keith and Melody attended a Bible study at Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Beverly Hills. There, they experienced God's presence and committed their lives to Jesus. Keith noted the profound change saying, "How He changed me was the greatest miracle that He could have done." His newfound faith led him to embrace what he called a 'John the Baptist' ministry, urging believers to genuinely reflect their faith in their lives.

Radical Christian Transformation Takes Hold

Keith's radical commitment to Jesus was evident in his ministry. Alongside Melody, he founded Last Days Ministries in 1977, opening their home to those in need and spreading the message of Jesus through music and written word. The ministry thrived, relocating to Texas in 1979, and growing to encompass 140 acres. Keith's music, given freely, and his writings, including "Why YOU Should Go to the Mission Field," challenged Christians to live authentically.

Legacy of Transformative Power

Tragically, Keith's life was cut short in a plane crash on July 28, 1982, at age 28. Yet, his legacy endures through his music and writings, which continue to inspire fervent faith. "When I die, I just want to be remembered as a Christian," he once said. His life exemplified a relentless pursuit of God's truth, a testament to Jesus's transformative power.
