Living as a Lukewarm Pastor
In the summer of 2007, my life was a lukewarm echo of the faith I claimed. I was a pastor at a church in Simi Valley, California, preaching about Jesus but feeling a haunting disconnect. I knew the right words, the comforting verses, but they felt hollow. I was coasting, caught in the complacency of routine. One night, lying awake, I was struck by a nagging thought: 'What if my life is just a series of safe decisions that don't reflect true faith?'
God Spoke Through Revelation 3:16
Then I stumbled upon Revelation 3:16: 'So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.' Those words hit me like a lightning bolt. The realization that God Himself was warning me of my apathetic state was sobering. I cried out to Jesus, asking Him to ignite a fire in my heart. At that moment, it was as if Jesus Himself was in the room, urging me to step out of my comfort zone and truly live for Him.
Faith Transformation Begins
Within weeks, everything began to change. I started seeing Jesus in the faces of the hurting and the lost around me. I recall a specific encounter with a homeless man named Walter on the streets of Los Angeles. Sitting with him, sharing a meal, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace and purpose. This was what Jesus wanted—an active, vibrant faith that seeks to love and serve. My sermons transformed from theoretical musings to heartfelt calls for action, and my congregation noticed.
From Lukewarm to Fired Up
Jesus was at work, tearing down the walls of my complacency and replacing them with a fiery passion to live radically for Him. My journey from lukewarm to fired up has been nothing short of a miracle, and all the glory goes to Jesus for awakening my soul and giving me a new purpose.
