Called to the Poorest Nation
Heidi Baker's journey into the heart of Mozambique is a testament to unwavering faith and the power of God's love. Born in Southern California, she became a Christian at a revival meeting, and at 16, a profound encounter with God on a Choctaw Indian reservation set her on a path to serve as a missionary. A vision from Jesus called her to minister in Asia, England, and Africa, despite her struggles with dyslexia and feelings of inadequacy.
In 1980, Heidi married Rolland Baker, and together they founded Iris Global. They spent twelve years in Asia, ministering to the poor and elderly, before God directed them to Mozambique in 1995. At the time, Mozambique was the poorest country in the world, and the Bakers faced immense challenges as they took over a former government orphanage filled with children in dire conditions.
There Will Always Be Enough
One pivotal night, Heidi had a vision of Jesus who reassured her, 'There will always be enough.' Despite starting with nothing—no money, no contacts—Heidi and Rolland poured their lives into the abandoned children. However, exhaustion and illness soon took their toll, leading Heidi to seek renewal at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship in 1996. There, she received a prophetic word asking if she desired Mozambique. Her answer was a resounding 'Yes,' and she left healed and determined to continue her mission.
Ten Thousand Churches Planted
The Bakers' ministry expanded rapidly, planting over ten thousand churches and witnessing countless miracles, including the blind seeing and the deaf hearing. Iris Global's work is a vivid demonstration of love in action, providing food, water, and the Word of God to those in need. Through it all, Heidi has remained 'Mama Aida' to thousands, embodying the gospel's call to love.
God's Provision Never Fails
In moments of need, God's provision has been unmistakable. When the ministry faced financial challenges, unexpected support, such as a significant donation from Kenneth Copeland Ministries, arrived just in time. Heidi's faith and obedience transformed not just her life, but the lives of countless others, showing that with Jesus, truly, there is always enough.
