Pastor Dano was a soldier before he was a pastor. He came out of the battlefield alive when he had no reason to, and he never shook the sense of why. "I believe God preserved my life from death on the battlefield for a purpose," he said.
The purpose showed up in a Buddhist village that wanted nothing to do with him. The vice chief's son was tormented, demon-possessed, and no one could help. Dano fasted and prayed for three days. Then, near midnight, he went to the shrine where the boy was and did the only thing he knew to do. "I called upon the name of the Lord," he said, "and the demon left the young man."
The night the shrines fell silent Villagers said every evil spirit left the village at once. Dano went from shrine to shrine, praying against the darkness that had ruled the place for generations. The vice chief's family, who had braced for his anger, found grace instead. They gave their lives to Jesus, and four more families followed.
The people who once opposed him now follow his lead. There is a church in that village today where there used to be shrines. The name of Jesus is still stronger than every dark thing that has ever frightened you. One believer, praying at midnight, was enough to set a whole village free.
