Deliverance from addiction, bondage, oppression.

Doxa is where Christians record what God has said and done, and return to remember it.

These are accounts of freedom: from addiction, from compulsion, from patterns that had held for years and had survived every previous attempt to break them. Alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, violence, self-harm, occult involvement. Several of these people had been through rehabilitation more than once before the account here begins.

Deliverance is a word that carries a lot of freight, and the accounts here use it carefully. Some describe an immediate and total end to a craving, confirmed later by the people who lived with them. Far more describe a decisive turning point followed by a long ordinary fight, with relapse in it. Both are recorded, because the second kind is what most people actually experience and an archive that hid it would be dishonest.

A recurring detail worth noticing: in a large share of these accounts the freedom arrives in company. A friend who kept showing up, a congregation that absorbed someone difficult, a stranger who prayed once. Isolation appears far more often in the before than in the after.

Every account names its source.

Can faith actually break an addiction?

These accounts describe it happening, and they also describe what it typically looks like, which is less tidy than the summaries suggest. A minority record an instantaneous end to the craving. The majority record a turning point that made the fight winnable rather than one that ended it, sustained afterwards by community, Scripture and repeated small decisions over years. Read a few in full rather than skimming the summaries; the detail is where the useful part is.
