Sean O'Farrell: A Google Search After a Breakup Led Him to Jesus

The Weekend Everything Changed

August 2022🇬🇧Wadebridge, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom

After a breakup in 2022, Sean O'Farrell googled 'Buddhist festivals', then 'Christian festivals'. Creation Fest in Cornwall was happening the next weekend. Overwhelmed during worship, gripped by John 14:6 and a vision of his desk replaced by a Bible, he was baptised at the festival that August. He now serves as a missionary in Dublin.

Doxa is where Christians record what God has said and done, and return to remember it.

You can't call yourself a Christian if you're not willing to deny yourself and give up everything.

Sean O'Farrell was not looking for Jesus. After university in Falmouth he had settled in Exeter, and when a relationship ended he went looking for something, anything, to fill the gap. He opened Google and typed "Buddhist festivals". Then, almost as an afterthought, he tried "Christian festivals".

Creation Fest came up. It was happening the very next weekend, at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre in Wadebridge, and it was free. Sean had already met the Creation Fest team months earlier at a food and drink expo, and had attended a Christian wedding a few weeks before. Looking back, the trail of coincidences looks less like coincidence and more like a pursuit.

The Weekend Everything Changed

Sean packed a tent and camped by the lake. In the first worship session, something he had no category for happened. Emotion overwhelmed him, wave after wave, in a field full of strangers singing to a God he did not yet know.

He spent the rest of the weekend going to every talk he could and sitting with people in the prayer tent. One sentence of Scripture cut through everything: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He also received a picture he could not shake, a vision of his desk swept clear of everything on it and replaced with a single Bible.

By the end of the festival, in August 2022, Sean was baptised. The man who had googled his way to Cornwall went home belonging to Jesus.

From a Tent in Cornwall to the Streets of Dublin

The vision of the cleared desk proved accurate. Sean's life reorganised itself around the one thing that now mattered. He gave himself to the kind of faith he describes plainly: "You can't call yourself a Christian if you're not willing to deny yourself and give up everything."

Today Sean serves as a missionary in Dublin, preaching the same Jesus he met in a field in Cornwall to people who, like him three years earlier, are not looking for Him yet.

The God Who Uses Search Engines

Nobody plans to find eternal life through a search bar. But Jesus has never been limited by how people come looking. A breakup, a bored evening, two typed searches and a free festival the following weekend. That was all the opening He needed.
